Final Days

I am down to the final three days of painting in the 28 Day Challenge. I really feel that I've learned a lot by "practicing" every single day. Here are a few of my learned lessons:

  • Strathmore Watercolour paper is difficult to work with, next time I will use Arches
  • Working in "one" medium is a great way to focus and truly get to know the miracles of that medium
  • Working in a confined booklet and within a confined size was a great tool to keep the momentum going and have all the work in one place...when you look back you see areas of improvement or experiments that may or may not have worked, it's all exciting
  • Island Blue Printers will bind your pages at a reasonable cost
  • I wasn't too keen on the given prompts, mostly because I was sticking to watercolour only and some of the prompts were more for a variety of mediums (sketching, mixed media etc.) but on the other hand, I never had difficulty coming up with an idea of my own

28 Day Challenge Continues

Yup, I'm still participating in the 28 daily challenge. I have not used most of the prompts given, as I find that they are way too boring and simplistic for me; so I have relied on my own inspiration that I surrounded by all the time.

Here are a few more....

The Return

We had a wonderful few days in Vancouver - celebrating our daughters birthday. Where does the time go? As I try to recall those memories of early childhood and raising a family in the midst of three little grandchildren all fighting for my attention; I am so grateful to have had all these experiences. Exhausting but I wouldn't miss a minute of it! We are so proud of her; a beautiful, smart mom of three; who seems to have endless patience. Blessings to all her lovely and adorable family and
I feel so blessed everyday to be apart of their life and to have them in my life.

Until next time....happy creating!

Travell'ng Tuesday

Since I started this blog way back in August, it appears that I travel a lot on Tuesdays. I always thought, Tuesdays were quiet, uneventful days; therefore blogging on a Tuesday would be no problem. I have made Tuesdays a more challenging day by trying to keep up my end of the "bargain".  I'm off to Vancouver for our daughters birthday and to visit the little ones. We are staying in a hotel downtown, so we at least get to sleep in!!!

I don't have a whole lot of interesting stuff going on right now except the daily practice challenge, here are four more of my practice watercolours.

My Daily Practice

I am keeping up with the 28 days of Daily Practice Challenge. So far, I have completed twelve little gems. The watercolours are done on Strathmore 140 lb. paper and I do find that this particular paper is difficult to work on. Saying that, I am still committed to working in one bound booklet...I will make some changes for a future "28 day Challenge".

Here are three more to add to my collection.

Fat Tuesday

This is the day before Lent, and it's during this time that both my husband and I forgo/give up something that we love; for me that is a great wine. So for the next 6 weeks, please forgive me, as I might be a tad touchy...no it will be fine, I give up wine every Lent.

Update on the 28 Daily Practice Challenge. I'm not crazy about the "daily prompts", they are a suggestion only, as a result I'm really doing my own thing. So far, so good. I'm keeping up,  sticking to the watercolour medium only and in all in the same book. My challenge is to be focused and not be all over the place. Today is Day 9....here are some examples of this past week's work..

First 5 Days

I'm well into the 28 day Opus Daily Practice Challenge and I'm really enjoying the experience so far. I haven't taken the opportunity to use their "prompts" because I have a lot of my own ideas that I'm using...blooms for example.

Here are a few photos from week one.

A Brand New Month

Wow, where did January go!! So now we are heading into "spring" here in Victoria. The snowdrops are out, the daffodils are up and ready to burst open with their yellow and orange heads and the temperatures are increasing right along with the hours of daylight.

February is also a month for challenges and I am always up for one. This is a 28 day "Opus Daily Practice" of your art or whatever creative journey you are on. I've decided to "practice" small 6"x6" watercolours. I've decided to use a bound Strathmore Watercolour 140 cold press paper for this series.

In keeping with the "spring" theme...here is a little watercolour of red and yellow tulips.
